Kim specifically has 17+ years of experience working with children ranging from approximately 2 to 14 years old. She is always working to improve her clinical skills and practice through regular participation in continuing education courses. Remediating speech sound disorders has become an area of special interest for Kim and she is grateful to have the opportunity to serve your family!

SCREENINGS
SCREENINGS
A speech screening is often the first step in determining whether or not a child needs a more comprehensive speech evaluation. It is brief (typically 15 minutes) and provides general information about whether or not a child's speech is developing within age-typical expectations. Upon completion of the screening, the results will be reviewed with the family and recommendations will be provided. At Foundations Speech Therapy, speech screenings are provided at no cost to the family.

A speech evaluation is a more comprehensive and in-depth analysis of a child's speech sound system and oral motor functioning. Evaluations take more time to complete (often 45 minutes to an hour) and provide much greater detail about a child's speech sound development. Once the testing is completed, the family will be provided with a written evaluation report. The results guide the speech-language pathologist in developing a treatment plan that is most beneficial to the child. At Foundations Speech Therapy, a speech evaluation commonly consists of the following:

administration of a standardized assessment tool
elicitation of a sample of the child's connected speech (conversational speech)
an oral-facial exam
a case history form

Speech therapy is the fun part! This is the work that happens once a child has been identified as having difficulties with speech production. Whether the child's speech weaknesses are mild or more severe, the therapy plan is always tailored to meet his/her individual needs. The speech-language pathologist will use evidence-based practices and incorporate activities that are motivating and match the special interests of each child.
